MJ&Co Accountants was founded in May 1986 in Shrewsbury by our Senior Partner David Jones, who, for the previous 19 years, had worked in a senior position with HM Revenue & Customs.
David, from his time with HMRC, realised that small to medium sized businesses were simply not large enough to afford in-house accountancy support and usually relied on a half hour chat with their Accountant once a year for their financial and tax advice; which in most cases is simply not enough.Â
MJ&Co Accountants was created to not only provide the full range of services offered by most accountants, but also to provide hands-on support and advice to clients throughout the year. It is therefore no surprise that over 80% of new clients appoint us as a result of a personal recommendation from an existing client.Â
Simon Cook joined in 1989 and after qualifying in 2000 and almost 20 years with the business became a Partner in 2007. The business slowly transitioned over the years and in 2020 David decided to start taking a step back and Simon has continued to lead the business in the succeeding years.
We don’t just talk to our clients, we listen and adapt where possible – and we have done this for decades. So when a client suggested we introduced fixed fees for most businesses we listened, and our fixed fees have proved very popular. It was 30 years ago when our clients also asked for ‘out of hours’ appointments and as a result we began opening every Saturday morning, and remain the only accountants in the area to do so.Â
Over the years we have gradually expanded and now have a team of qualified staff. The senior members have all been with the firm for many years, providing the continuity of service that the majority of our clients prefer.
